Progetto RU.VI. (Ruffino e Vitale): l’abbazia dei SS. Ruffino e Vitale nel contesto storico e topografico dell’alta Val di Tenna

Umberto Moscatelli, Elisa Ravaschieri

Abstract

This paper reports on the first survey campaign carried out in the area of the early medieval Abbey of Saints Ruffino
and Vitale, near Amandola, in the Marche region. The research is framed within the RU.VI Project and grew out of a cooperation between the Universities of Macerata and Suor Orsola Benincasa, Naples. In paragraph 1 the authors introduce the historical context of the area in the late Roman period and in the Early Middle Ages, when the powers of the Bishopric of Fermo, of the Abbey of Farfa and of the emerging aristocracies began to shape the settlement patterns of the landscape. Paragraphs 2 and 3 illustrate the main results of the survey, describing some pottery findings.
