Abstract


This study examines the results of excavations carried out by D. Adamesteanu in 1976 in the municipality of Policoro
(MT), on the property of Schirone, south-west of the Barone Hill, where a necropolis from the Archaic Age was
found. The prevalent rite was cremation, in amphorae, pithoi and other containers of Greek-oriental import. The examined
group (59 burials) is datable between the first half of the VII century B.C. and the end of the VII century B.C.;
the necropolis is datable between the end of the VIII century B.C. and the end of the VII century B.C.
