Un nucleo di tombe dell’insediamento di Monte Irsi (scavo 1986)

Michele Laurenzana

Abstract

This paper focuses on the analysis of a group of 26 tombs brought to light during the campaign of excavations led by
the Archaeological Superintendency of Basilicata in 1986 at Monte Irsi (Irsina, MT). The tombs belong to an indigenous
settlement and date from the end of the VII to the beginning of the III century BC. In the 70s and 80s, several
archaeological teams had already led previous investigations on the site, highlighting its Roman and medieval phases.
This paper contributes to the knowledge of the indigenous pre-Roman phase of the settlement analysing the grave
goods found in the tombs, their composition, the features and the spaces of funerary ritual.
