La production de sel sur la côte tyrrhénienne de la péninsule Italique. De l’âge du Bronze à l’époque archaïque. État de l’art
Abstract
The study of salt production in the Italian peninsula is relatively new and has been driven by remarkable findings that
have been made on the Tyrrhenian coast over the past decade. The archaeological fields, recognizable by the large
quantities of olle sherds and heating traces, are mostly concentrated in the central part of the peninsula with a strong
Etruscan and Latin imprint. These sites were identified by M. Pacciarelli as salt production waste areas and are comparable
to similar discoveries in the Celtic world. Some of these sites reveal structures but their exact function has yet
to be identified. This article offers an overview of salt production in Tyrrhenian Italy between the Bronze Age and the
Archaic Period based on published documents.
