Oltre la tomba: deposizioni e pratiche postfunerarie nella necropoli di Macchiabate, Francavilla Marittima (CS)

Abstract

Although graves are often considered as closed complexes in archaeological research, objects are repeatedly found in
the filling and outside of the burial chambers. The article discusses this regular phenomenon in the context of the cult of
the dead, using various examples of finds that can be related to the status of the deceased – such as jewelry, weapons or
utensils – or to funerary rituals – such as ceramic vessels – from the Macchiabate necropolis at Francavilla Marittima.
