Le posture rituali nell’iconografia enotria

Salvatore Bianco, Antonio Affuso, Addolorata Preite

Abstract

In the Oenotrian iconography, the analysis of human figures, in schematic form as well as represented by an ideogram,
provides a variety of geometric-figurative representations which are used to investigate the ritual gestures and practices
also characterized by the posture of the whole figure, when present. The standing figure, hieratic and with his hands up,
is full of symbols and connection with the regenerative forces of the natural world. The same position expresses beliefs
in those forces fundamental to satisfy daily basic needs and to reinforce the hopes in the Hereafter. Of outmost interest
are the attempts of pictorial representation of sounds and words (music or song) in ritual emotional contexts. The
geometric-schematic representations, painted or figurines on ceramics or metals, highlight the presence of an internal
evolution influenced by external models resulting from contacts with other cultures.
