Il complesso termale di Cugno o Ciglio dei Vagni. Dati archeologici dalla non-destructive analysis

Francesco Martorella

Abstract

In the ancient Mediterranean context, the thermal culture represented one of the distinctive characteristics of Romanization.
In the Lucanian area (Basilicata region), the roman site of Cugno dei Vagni (Nova Siri, MT) is known for the
presence of baths with important dimensions and decorative features. Recently the University of Basilicata has started
non-destructive analysis investigations (magnetic prospecting). Confirming the role of the baths at the service of the
activities and movements connected with the ancient coastal road and the Sinni river, recent investigations have highlighted
new structural elements connecting the baths area and the western plateau.
