Herakleia Survey e i terreni sacri di Dioniso
Abstract
In recent years, an intense archaeological survey has been carried out between the municipalities of Policoro and Tursi,
called Herakleia Survey project, promoted by the University of Basilicata. It covers an area between the Agri and
Sinni rivers, corresponding to the heart of the ancient chora of the polis of Herakleia. It is a landscape archaeology
project, covering the territory between Herakleia (present-day Policoro) and the kome of Pandosìa (present-day S.M.
d’Anglona), within which innumerable topographical units have been discovered, belonging to various categories
of ancient agricultural installations. In this contribution, thanks to a new reading of the information contained in
the epigraphic document of Heraclea’s Table I, combined with data from our archaeological survey, observations of
the topography and morphology of the landscape, the location of springs and ancient road traces, as well as various
field measurements, a new hypothesis of the possible location of the sacred properties belonging to the sanctuary of
Dionysos is proposed.
