La chora di Herakleia: nuovi dati dalle ricognizioni archeologiche

Luisa Aino

Abstract

In the past decade, archaeological research in Herakleia within the area between the Agri and Sinni rivers, has been
marked by intensive surface surveys conducted by the Post graduated School of Archaeological Heritage of Matera, in
close collaboration with the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape of Basilicata. The Herakleia
survey project has yielded significant results, revealing traces of human occupation spanning a wide chronological
range, from Prehistory to the Medieval period. This has provided insights into the transformations of the landscape in
one of the most important centers of Magna Graecia, with a particular focus on the dynamics of urban settlement. This
paper presents the new data obtained within the survey project, specifically focused on the area between the Agri and
Sinni rivers.
