Ricerche archeologiche a Murgie di Santa Caterina (Rocca Imperiale, CS): trasformazioni di un insediamento rurale medievale

Adele Coscarella, Fabio Lico

Abstract

The results of the excavation campaigns conducted by the University of Calabria at the site of Murgie are presented in
summary and an account of what has been achieved by the excavation campaign of 2017, which has offered greater
opportunities to deepen certain ceramic forms. The stratigraphic analysis has enabled to differentiate chronologically
the ceramic finds for which a detailed analysis is presented, that have attested diversified forms for the knowledge of
material culture related to the IX-XIII centuries AD. This study contributes to placing a crucial piece in the history of
medieval ceramics in Calabria, given the possibility of analyzing reconstructed forms that have provided important
discussion on the production of common ceramics manufacturing in a fortified site which has seen three successive
governments (Byzantine, Norman, Swabian) from different economic and social policies.
