Abstract

After revisiting the history of research in the hinterland of ancient Gela, the paper analyzed the results related the period
VII-V secolo a.C. on necropolis, farmstead and sacred areas in the east of the homonymous river up to Dirillo river
(ancient Achates). In the context of the geography of the territory is therefore proposed a historical reconstruction of the
the process of definition of the chora east and nord-east of Gela. The evidence is connected with economic activities on
the coast and on hills and in the context of relations with indigenous. The funerary material is an indicator of the strong
attachment of the geloan aristocracy to the earth.
