L’Aqua Augusta al servizio del golfo di Napoli

Abstract

During some works of the Serino spring on the Terminio-Tuoro mountains (Avellino), an ancient inscribed headstone
was accidentally found. The discovery of the stone allowed to correct the paternity of the aqueduct erroneously attributed
to Emperor Claudius. The inventor - if not the creator - of the work was almost certainly Marco Vipsanio Agrippa to
which we owe the paternity of Portus Iulius (Pozzuoli), for the war against Pompey and the Portus Misenus, both of
which will be supplied by the Augustan aqueduct.
