Le comunità dell’entroterra: il caso di San Brancato di Sant’Arcangelo (PZ). La necropoli lucana

Josipa Mandić e Cesare Vita

Abstract

Excavations carried out since the 1980s by the Soprintendenza Archeologica of Basilicata at Sant’Arcangelo in the Agri
valley brought to light more than 500 burials dating from the early 4th to the first half of the 3rd century BC. The burials
testify to the existence of a nearby settlement from the Lucanian period. Recently, the authors have analyzed 127 burials,
of which a selection is presented in the present paper. Based on this material, they attempt to assess the social structure
of the community as well as the interrelations with other sites along the Agri River, in particular Herakleia.
