Le comunità dell’entroterra: la necropoli della prima età del ferro di contrada San Brancato di S. Arcangelo (PZ)

Salvatore Bianco

Abstract

The present paper deals with the Early Iron Age settlement of San Brancato near S. Arcangelo in the Agri valley. Early
Iron Age tombs with supine burials were excavated in 1981 (proprietà Lo Zito), as well as between 1996 and 2001 in
the commercial area of the modern town. The two necropoleis can be ascribed to two groups within the local community
living nearby.
Although the community of San Brancato was scarcely developed in terms of economy and trade, it still had contacts
with other sites in the region. Metal objects and pottery of the Early and Middle Geometric periods found at San Brancato
point to contacts with important settlement centers of the region, namely Chiaromonte, Anglona and Incoronata-San
Teodoro.
