La necropoli meridionale di Herakleia. Note preliminari della campagna di scavo 2009
Abstract
The present paper is based on the analysis of 73 tomb groups discovered on a construction site in Policoro, Via Salerno,
in 2009. The tombs date to between the 4th and the 3rd century BC (although some also date to the 2nd century BC) and
form a part of the so-called South Necropolis of Herakleia. The analysis of the tombs reveals a spatial distribution in
clusters. Both inhumation and cremation is attested. Furthermore, the authors present a tomb discovered in 2013 not far from the Via Salerno (località Fosso Cotino). The tomb stands out because of the extraordinary, still enigmatic, objects
found among the grave goods.
