Decorazioni architettoniche fittili arcaiche da Policoro: vecchi dati e nuovi percorsi di lettura

Abstract

The present paper deals with the Archaic architectonic terracottas from Policoro (ancient Siris-Herakleia). Although this
kind of object might seem particularly indicative of institutional breaks in the history of the site (“destruction” and
“reoccupation”), the author highlights the role of workshop-related factors for change in the style and typology of
architectonic terracottas, thus questioning the connection between architecture and political, cultural, and ethnic identities.
Particular attention is paid to the analysis of fragments of figural frieze plates, which have close parallels to other sites in the region.
