Abstract


St. Byz. s. v. “Antiocheia” speaks us about three colonies founded by Antiochus
I in Caria. It is a datum connected with the well-known historiographical tradition about the
four Syrian colonies founded by Seleuchus Nicator. Probably it was at the court of Antiochus
the Great that this tradition was originated with the purpose of defending Seleucid policy in Caria.
