Abstract

The evidence offered by the books of Maccabees for the age of Antiochos IV’s
reform allows to highlight how ‘Hellenism’ was especially and namely born from the very prob-
lematic relationship between Greek and Jew people and culture, to the point of being the most
signi&cant heritage of that unique historical match. In the dossier available to dealing with the
issue, the historian must not &nally underestimate the book of Sirach.
