UNA RIFLESSIONE SULL’IDENTITÀ SICELIOTA ATTRAVERSO IL CULTO DI APOLLO ARCHEGETES

Abstract

The contribution aims to reflect on the complex theme of ancient Greek identity
and, more specifically, on the formation of the identity specificities of the Greeks of Sicily
through the analysis of the altar and the cult of Apollo Archegetes. The objective is to investigate
the formation of ethnic identities of ‘regional’ type, that is, communities aware of their
specificities compared to other Greek poleis and the motherland, and, if this can be determined,
identify the period in which it is possible to place the birth of the phenomenon.
