Abstract
SVMMARIVM – In Men. fr. 354 aut effeminatus dominus seu iuvenis athleta servum, aut
coquus ministrum suum verberare loro de ampulla soluto videtur, at ea verba ab re veneria,
ad quam viri docti quidam ea rettulerunt, aliena esse puto.
ABSTRACT – Men. fr. 354 probably refers to an effeminate master or a young athlete whipping
a slave, or – better – a cook punishing his assistant by the strap taken from an oil-flask,
but it has nothing to do with love affairs and sex as some critics suggested.
