Abstract

SVMMARIVM – De brevibus scriptis metricis disseritur, quae fragmenta Sangallensia dicuntur
(GL VI, 637, 16-641, 6), a codice Sangallensi (Sankt-Gallen, Stiftsbibliothek 876) tradita.

communis unde veniant quantum conici possit exquiritur.

ABSTRACT – This work aims to study in detail the short metric excerpts known as fragmenta
Sangallensia (GL VI, 637, 16-641, 6), transmitted by the manuscript of Sankt-Gallen,
Stiftsbibliothek 876. Firstly, the doctrines and examples preserved by these texts in some cases
transmit a rare and erudite tradition, and they derive from different sources: the same source
of the Explanationes in Donatum assigned to ‘Sergius’ (GL IV 523, 3-524, 17), as well as
Apthonius and Julian of Toledo. Secondly, we formulate some hypotheses on the possible
provenance of the metric materials that merged into the Sankt-Gallen manuscript, and in
particular of the common model to S and the Explanationes.
