SVMMARIVM – Et in Germania (27, 1) et diffusius in Agricola (46) iisdem argumentis
(immo saepe iisdem uerbis) usus est Tacitus de minuendo mortis dolore et de tradenda in
aeternum defunctorum memoria per eorum uirtutum contemplationem.

ABSTRACT – Both in Germania (27, 1) and in Agricola (46), Tacitus uses the same arguments
(and sometimes even the same words) to propose, as an ethical model for his contemporaries,
the moderation in pain and the memory of the virtues of the deceased, on the model
of the mos maiorum.
