PISONIANUM VITIUM. INTERTESTUALITÀ CICERONIANA E POLEMICA TEOLOGICA IN GIROLAMO (EP. 69, 2)

Sergio Audano

Abstract

ABSTRACT – This article aims to analyze a particular passage by Jerome (Ep. 69, 2), in wich
he uses a sentence from Cicero’s In Pisonem (1, 1) to grotesquely portray a rhetor against
whom he had disputed over a controversy victoriously regarding the question of the ordained
bishops already married before conversion. Jerome uses this sentence to unveil the signs of his
opponent’s face to replace his eloquence now completely defeated.
