CONTRO L’APPROPRIAZIONE INDEBITA E STRUMENTALE DEI CLASSICI
Abstract
To fully understand the Nazi regime, we must examine its appropriation of the
lessons of the ancient world: their approach to antiquity was its concept of race, their claim
to antiquity was that the contemporary Germans possessed the same racial essence as the
ancient Greeks and Romans. $e Nazis’ use of classical antiquity - in official speeches, film,
state architecture, the press, and state-sponsored festivities - conferred on them the prestige and
heritage of Greece and Rome that the modern German people needed and justified the Nazis’
territorial conquests.
