Su παρασημαίνεσθαι in Aristotele: o, dare un nome alle proprie fonti

Abstract

The paper argues that the proper meaning of the technical and juridical
term παρασημαίνεσθαι is that of recording – alongside the extracts collected from
works of other authors, usually in the margins of a papyrus roll – the names (and
not the opinions, as is usually meant) of the authors whose words are quoted anonymously
in the body of the text. This practice should be considered also when trying to
explain why many quotations by Aristotle and his affiliates remain anonymous, or are
attributed to a generic τις.
