Clearco fr. 51 Dorandi

Abstract

Athenaeus testifies to Clearchus, fr. 51 D. in two passages. In both passages
some corruptions prevent the exact understanding of the text and it seems that two
testimonies contradict each other. As for the textual problems, little corrections are
enough to make the text understandable. As for the contradictions, they are due to the
two different contexts. In particular, the first concerns the king of Persia, the second
one Sardanapalus.
