Pater vero is est… Sull’attribuzione di alcuni testi della commedia greca

Francesco Paolo Bianchi

Abstract

The paper deals with some cases of doubtful attribution of Greek comedies
that are known to us only through indirect tradition. The earliest stages of the
transmission of such plays are reconsidered by proposing the following set of categories:
texts that the scholars of Alexandria had been unable to access; linguistic features
which raised suspicion of misattribution; the production of diaskeuai (‘new editions’);
confusion between members of the same family (e.g. between father and son, as in
the case of Aristophanes and Araros). These categories help us reframe doubts about
authorship, which may go back to the Alexandrian scholars.
