L’autore e il testo poetico nella cultura greca arcaica e classica

Andrea Ercolani

Abstract

The investigation of the most relevant ancient sources on the figure and
role of the poets suggests that in the ancient Greek culture (until the end of the 5th
century BCE) they played quite a different function from the one we tend to assign to
them in modern times. The poets are thought of as mediators between different and
multifarious instances and social agents rather than as authors endowed with agency
that transmit their own message according to idiosyncratic communicative strategies.
