Per l’interpretazione di Theogn. 667-682

Abstract

The paper proposes an overall interpretation of lines 667-682 of the
Theognidean sylloge. The allegory in lines 671-680 is functional to the concept of the
first two couplets, which express an archaic aristocratic ideological vision present in a
large part of elegies of the sylloge. The last couplet, however, can be explained in more
appropriate way if traced back to the typical expressive modalities of symposium and
evaluated within the paideutic function of elegy in relation to the expectations of the
audience.
