PITTURA FRAMMENTARIA DALLA VILLA TARDOANTICA DELL’ORATORIO (LIMITE SULL’ARNO-FI)

AA. VV.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the changes that characterize the late-antique Villa of Oratorio in Limite sull’Arno
(Fi) between the fourth and fifth centuries, with the aim of providing an improved contextualization the wall
paintings found during the 2010 excavations. This is a rich set of fragments related to a painted coffered ceiling,
composed of a mesh of red stripes on a white background, that define octagonal fields decorated in the
centre with stylized flowers. A second set of fragments provides precious information about the decoration
of the walls, characterized by a linear system that surrounds large figures and is enlivened, in accordance
with the taste of the mid-fourth century A.D., by small decorative patterns.
