STUDI PRELIMINARI SULLE DECORAZIONI PITTORICHE DELLA CD. VILLA DI POMPEO AD ALBANO

Abstract

This paper presents a complete study of the structures and construction materials of the cd. Villa of Pompey
the Great in Albano, carried out as part of a project led by the DAI. An analysis of the various types of
construction materials has made it possible to trace the different phases of the plan of the complex by linking
them to the different construction phases. In particular, a number of architectonic terracotta fragments
and the remains of painted plaster were revealed in the two most recent excavations carried out at the villa
by Dr. Pino Chiarucci from 1983 to 1986 and by the Archaeology Cooperative from 2000 to 2003, which
have provided information on the decorative styles of the structure. It has been also possible to carry out a
reconstruction hypothesis for a section of the plaster fragments.
