LE IIe STYLE EN RELIEFS : LES ENSEMBLES DE STUCS DE LA DOMUS AUX BUCRANES A OSTIA ANTICA

Abstract

The publication of the monograph Nani in Festa. Iconografia, religione e politica in Ostia durante il secondo
triumvirato (C. Bocherens éd., Edipuglia, 2012) provided an opportunity to highlight the exceptional decorative
system of the “Domus aux Bucranes”. In addition to the frieze depicting dwarfs, noteworthy for
both its quality and iconography, oecus 101 also revealed a remarkable collection of stuccos, which have
thus far remained unpublished. This article will analyse the location of these stuccos on the wall and their
interconnections with the mosaics, frescoes and painted ceiling, as well as their iconography, in close relation
with the context of the domus and with Ostia in the Late Republican period.
