QUALITÀ E VARIETÀ DELLE PITTURE DELLA PRIMA ETÀ GIULIO-CLAUDIA DAL PINCIO: NUOVE ACQUISIZIONI DALL’AREA DELLA FALEGNAMERIA DI VILLA MEDICI

AA. VV.

Abstract

During the excavations of the so-called falegnameria of Villa Medici (2009-2013), a considerable amount of
wall painting and stucco fragments were uncovered. This material is currently being analysed, and it may
be possible to date it to between the Late Republican and Julio-Claudian periods. These wall decorations
belonged to unknown residential complexes linked with the Horti of the Pincio. The fragmentary plaster is
characterized by a high-level of craftsmanship, and significantly increase our knowledge of the late Second
and Third Style wall paintings in Rome.
