PROGETTI DI RICERCA PER LA TUTELA DEL PAESAGGIO ANTICO DELLA COSTA DI TARQUINIA

Abstract

In this paper we give news of a recent research project (funded 2016) of University of Rome Sapienza,
still in progress, carried out in collaboration with the Soprintendenza ABAP-Rm-Met. The object of this
research is the coast of Tarquinia in medieval times: specifically we analyze the close relationship between
the hinterland and the port of Corneto, one of Tyrrenic’s most influential seaports for many centuries. This
project, which also involves the University of Siena and ISPRA, is an excellent opportunity to review the
knowledge about Tarquinia’s coast and its surroundings. In addition, the research aims to furnish long-term
palaeoenvironmental dynamics of Tarquinia’s coast.
