BRIDGING THE : IL PROGETTO ENCODE E L’EPIGRAFIA DIGITALE

Abstract


This paper provides an overview of the results produced by the ENCODE project. The project is a threeyear
Erasmus+ Strategic partnership for higher education, aimed at bridging the existing gap in the teaching/
learning domains of ancient written cultures between the peculiar humanistic training and the now essential
digital competences. The Bologna team focuses on Greek and Latin epigraphy and Artificial Intelligence
applied to the study of inscriptions. In relation to this field, different products have been realized: two reports
analyzing the results of previous training experiences, a database with teaching modules based on the
description of the digital competences needed by graduates in Ancient History, Classics, Archaeology and
Cultural Heritage and a MOOC unit on the required training for new epigraphists.
