C’ERA UNA VOLTA LA RIVOLUZIONE. INTORNO A UN CELEBRE DECRETO DA ZELEA SUL RECUPERO DEI TERRENI PUBBLICI*

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to re-examine some aspects of a famous decree from Zeleia about the recovery of
public lands (Syll.³ 279). Firstly, a re-edition of the text is given together with six other decrees which were
engraved on the side B of the same stone (now lost). The unity of the dossier, long underestimated, is thus
brought to attention. In the second part, all the elements (palaeography, dialect, structure etc.) are synthetically
considered. This can help in understanding the civic dynamics within Zeleia and in reconsidering the
historical context in which the dossier originated.
