EPIGRAFIA, SACRO E SOCIETÀ TRA ETRURIA SETTENTRIONALE E PADANA. GRUPPI SOCIALI E MODELLI EGEMONICI NEI LUOGHI DI CULTO TRA VI E V SECOLO A.C.*

Andrea Gaucci

Abstract

The contribution aims to systematise the society manifestations in sacred contexts within Northern and Po
Valley Etruria through epigraphy. A contextual approach is chosen and the analysis is developed focusing on
the 6th-5th century BCE, while it is not considered practicable for the Hellenistic period due to the reliable
documents lack in Po Valley Etruria. Practices and agents are compared, particularly in order to formulate
considerations on social classes and their relationship with the sacred. This allows us to propose the identification
of at least two diversified models, one of a hegemonic nature within the Po Valley urban settlements
and the other linked to the sacred places use by the aristocratic groups of the territories along the Arno
valley from Volterrano to Casentino.
