ACQUE CURATIVE E PERCORSI DI TRANSUMANZA NEL LAZIO PREROMANO. LE DEDICHE DAL SANTUARIO DI CASALE PESCAROLA A CASALVIERI (FR) Fig. 1

Abstract

This paper focuses on a number of aspects of the economic practices underlying the genesis and development of pre-roman places of worship in the inland area of southern Lazio, through the case study of the Casale Pescarola sanctuary in Casalvieri (FR). These open-air areas of worship were located close to ponds or springs, along the routes connecting Lazio to the Sannio region and Campania. During the archaic period, these sites displayed similar patterns of votive offerings, characterized by the depositing of both clay and bronze miniature objects in a humid environment. The deposits began between the fourth and second centuries BC and included votive offerings displaying features typical of the Etrusco-Latial-Campanian coroplastic tradition. In this case, an analysis of the species of animal depicted in the figurines and the frequency with which they occurred has the possibility to shed light on the economic context of which the sanctuaries formed an important part prior to romanization.
