THYMIATERIA DA LAVINIUM: PRODUZIONI E DISTRIBUZIONE*

Abstract

This paper deals with the thymiateria from Lavinium. The exceptional numerical consistency of the group from the eastern sanctuary (dedicated to the goddess Minerva) has made it possible to develop detailed typological categorisation, as well as the analysis of the doughs which highlighted two productions. Furthermore, the already debated practical function of the thymiateria, considered tout court to be censers by the scientific literature, was examined in the light of the cults linked to Minerva, as part of the functional re-evaluation of these artefacts.
