CORTESIA E SCORTESIA NELL’ORATORIA ROMANA DELL’ETÀ REPUBBLICANA E IMPERIALE: PROBLEMI TEORICI E CASI DI STUDIO*
Abstract
My paper aims to investigate some features of politeness and impoliteness in Roman oratory also examining
the main terminological issues about the topic. In the second part of the paper I deal with some Ciceronian
examples taken from the orationes post reditum and with Tacitean case studies deriving from Ann. 1, where
emperor Tiberius, Asinius Gallus and Haterius collide with each other.
