LA ROMANIZZAZIONE DELLA SABINA E LA DIVISIO AGRORUM

Mattia Melone

Abstract

The path towards the Romanization of the Sabine territory was distinct from those followed in other regions
occupied by Rome. This differentiation is particularly evident when considering typical land division
and the related juridical consequences. Romans did not carry out a classical colonization with establishment
of new cities and massive centuriatio of the lands but chose another method to subdue their neighbors; this
means consisted of an overlap of two institutional systems (Roman and Sabine) that had ample effects on the
organization and territorial planning of the area.
