L’ETRURIA PRIMA E DOPO LA GUERRA SOCIALE: CONTINUITÀ E DISCONTINUITÀ NELLE CARICHE RELIGIOSE

Giuliano Caraciolo

Abstract

The issue of integration of the Etruscans into the res publica and the survival of local institutions and offices
has been addressed on several occasions over the last few decades. This contribution aims to investigate the
continuity and discontinuity of Etruscan religious offices in the Roman world, with particular attention to
epigraphical records. The only Etruscan priesthood which finds a reliable counterpart in the Roman world
is that of haruspex, in Etruscan netsvis, as testified by the famous bilingual inscription of Pesaro (CIL, XI
6363). Moreover, a series of inscriptions testifies to the revival, during the Roman Imperial Age, of presumed
Etruscan institutions, such as the aedilitas Etruriae and praetura XV populorum.
