L’IMPATTO DELLA “ROMANIZZAZIONE” SU VEIO E IL SUO TERRITORIO: TRACCE DI CONTINUITÀ E DISCONTINUITÀ IN AMBITO SACRO, ABITATIVO E FUNERARIO

Laura Maria Michetti

Abstract

The traditional view of a clear break after the Roman conquest of Veii in 396 BC. has been around for some
time questioned by re-evaluating the passage of Livy (6. 4. 4) and on the basis of a careful reading of the
archaeological data.
The research conducted by Sapienza University of Rome in the urban area within the framework of the
Veii Project and the data emerging from the recent excavations conducted by the Superintendency in the
southern sector of the territory allow to reflect again and with more up-to-date tools on the problem of
continuity / discontinuity of the life of the great Etruscan city in the phase of “Romanization”.
