CRONACHE DEL MUSEO DELL’ARTE CLASSICA: IL CALCO DELL’“EROS PALATINO” TRA SCAVO ARCHEOLOGICO E DOCUMENTAZIONE D’ARCHIVIO

Raffaella Bucolo, Mariateresa Curcio

Abstract

This paper outlines the latest research conducted over the last year for the Museum of Classical Art. The
plaster cast of Eros on loan from the collection was displayed on the occasion of the exhibition D’Alésia
à Rome: L’aventure archéologique de Napoléon III (1861-1870). The original artwork was found during
the campaign of excavations on the Palatine hill, commissioned by Napoleon III and supervised by Pietro
Rosa. The occasion of the exhibition lead to a more extensive study of the plaster cast, its restoration and to
a thorough analysis of written sources relevant to the Museum collection.
