Abstract


After a short overview of 15th and 16th century practice of collecting and displaying fragmentary antique
sculptures, this paper examines some examples of the display of torsos in 17th century Rome, highlighting
the peculiar context of a work owned by Cardinal Antonio Barberini and connecting it with Bernini’s appreciation
of the Pasquino group.
