PROGETTO “DIZIONARI DEL VICINO ORIENTE ANTICO”

Abstract

The project “Dizionari del Vicino Oriente antico” has been undertaken as an enterprise of the Unione
Accademica Nazionale with the aim to produce a series of dictionaries of various languages of the ancient
Near East, to be used primarily in the university education. Dictionaries of the Sumerian, Neo-Assyrian,
Phoenician and Punic, Hittite, Egyptian, Elamite and Old Persian languages, or of major textual corpora
of these languages, are being presently prepared by an equipe of cooperating scholars. The project is fruit
of the cooperation of the Academy, various Universities and ISMEO. Linguistic and philological accuracy
combined with attention to the needs of university teaching of the ANE disciplines are the salient features
of the works briefly presented in the article.
