UN REPOSITORY PER L’EGYPTIAN ITALIAN MISSION AT WEST ASWAN (EIMAWA)

Patrizia Piacentini, Massimiliana Pozzi, Massimiliana Pozzi Battaglia

Abstract

The EIMAWA Mission is made up of a multidisciplinary team that includes, in addition to egyptologists,
the presence of experts from disciplines such as geomatics, forensic anthropology and radiology, but also
archaeozoology, archaeobotany, chemistry and restoration, etc. Each excavation campaign ends with a huge
mass of technical documentation that includes heterogeneous materials formulated by many different researchers.
Precisely this heterogeneity of information has generated the need to adopt a centralized repository
that would allow the management and extraction of knowledge from the data acquired during the excavations.
For the organization, sharing and subsequent study a collaborative platform was modeled, thanks to
the help of the IT experts of the mission created with open source software tools, which allows the storage
and processing of the aforementioned data.
