LA MISSIONE ARCHEOLOGICA DELLA SAPIENZA A BETLEMME: ARCHEOLOGIA URBANA E VALORIZZAZIONE

Abstract

The joint Italian-Palestinian expedition to Bethlehem by Sapienza University of Rome and the Ministry of
Tourism and Antiquities of Palestine (MoTA-DACH), funded by Sapienza and the Italian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, has been active since 2015, and operates in the area of the municipality of Bethlehem, within a
multi-year excavation and research project in the necropolis of Khalet al-Jam’a, with emergency excavations
in threatened sites, with surveys and documentation seasons, in order to protect the archaeological heritage
of the area, subjected to increasing building activity.
