PROSE: LAVORI IN CORSO E PROSPETTIVE FUTURE

Elisabetta Cianfanelli

Abstract

The analysis of the exceptional anthroponomastic heritage recorded in the administrative and chancery texts
from the cuneiform archives found in the Palace G of Ebla (Tell Mardikh, Syria, 24th century BC) allowed
the scholars to achieve an abundance of data in both linguistic and prosopographical studies. Given the
scientific advantages offered by the latter, in 2006 the project The Prosopography of Ebla was born by the
joint effort of the Universities of Rome and Florence. Since then, this project, which is now known as ProsE
under the responsibility of Amalia Catagnoti of the University of Florence, has been aiming to organize
thousands of onomastic attestations from published and unpublished texts to create an open-access digital
tool that promotes and facilitates research on the Ebla documentation. From the original organisation of the
data up to the most recent structural modifications, the onomastic material accessible online in the project
site makes it possible to identify the biographical traits of the considerable number of persons recorded in
the Ebla texts.
