LA MISSIONE ARCHEOLOGICA DELLA SAPIENZA AD ARSLANTEPE (TURCHIA): RICERCA, COOPERAZIONE E VALORIZZAZIONE DI UN SITO UNESCO

Francesca Balossi Restelli, Marcella Frangipane

Abstract

In July 2021, the site of Arslantepe was formally declared a World Heritage Site by the international UNESCO
committee. This result has been achieved thanks to sixty years of excavation, research, conservation
and valorisation of the site carried out by the expedition of the Sapienza University of Rome, initiated by
Professors Salvatore Maria Puglisi and Alba Palmieri and then continued for 40 years by Prof. Marcella
Frangipane, with a broad collaboration that now counts more than 20 national and international institutions.
The article briefly presents the state of research, current collaborations and projects for the valorisation
and dissemination of knowledge, which today make Arslantepe an example of a multidisciplinary
scientific project with important spin-offs for both research and international cooperation.
